The Covenanters Christian Church Logo

The following is a brief explanation of the symbols of the logo of Covenanters Christian Church, which has retained the form used for almost 50 years, but now with some subtle changes as of February 2020.

The shield reminds us that Christian life and Christian ministry take place within the context of a very real war, a war between the Accuser, the Creator (Ephesians 6:10-20). While we rest in God’s ultimate victory, we know the struggle is real.

Central to the shield is a cross. The centre of all of life and ministry is the empty Cross of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 1:18-31). The Cross is the focal point of all history, it is also the focal point of all our life as a church community.

Each quadrant symbolises a value that we treasure.

The open Bible in the top left reminds us of the precious gift of God’s adequate revelation of Himself and us within His Word (2 Tim. 3:16-17). His Word is the basis of all we do and believe.

The bowl and towel in the top right signify to us that we are called to be servants. Servants of God, servants of one another within the church and also servants of people outside the church (John 13:1-17).

The cup and bread speak of fellowship in community based upon the broken body and poured out blood of Christ. Christian life and ministry take place corporately, within community, not simply individually (1 Cor. 11:23-26; Heb. 10:25).

The last quadrant is, in a sense foundational to all, the crown in the bottom right. God, our Saviour is King, Whose sovereignty we celebrate and proclaim. Our Father is God and King of all (Phil. 2:9-11).

The chosen colours are similarly symbolic.

The blue is the blue of royalty, the royalty of God but also the royalty of His children in their final inheritance. Gold reminds us that our inheritance in Christ is as God is, glorious and precious.

Red outlines each section of the logo, a statement that Christ’s death and subsequent resurrection is all embracing, all pervasive, holds all things together.

Finally, the white at the centre, signifies the purity and perfection of our adequate Sacrifice and our blessed Saviour and God, Jesus.
